Women in Technology Club

If you are a female majoring in a traditionally male-dominated discipline, the Women in Technology Club is for You!
Get connected and explore other support systems as well as other powerful occupations where women are underrepresented. These would include CIS, Computational Science, Engineering, CADD Technology, Math, all of the Sciences, Automotive Technology, most areas of Ornamental Horticulture, Waste Water Technology, and Environmental Technology.

Join us for knowledge, empowerment and support!

On Wednesday, December 1st, a general meeting of the WIT club was convened. We want to welcome our new members. Nanette Weir gave a very motivating presentation on "Assertive Communication". After the presentation, members discussed methods for dealing with various situations utilizing assertion without aggression.

Our next meeting in February will feature a panel of successful women in non-traditional careers. Don't miss it; this is your opportunity to find out how they did it!

Research has shown that one factor that discourages women from selecting certain career areas is their traditional inexperience with hands-on mechanical “playing” and experimenting; thus, one of the innovative activities planned for the year are workshops where women can work on engines, build computers, and perform cabling tasks.

The primary purpose of the club is to provide support, encouragement, and survival strategies for women in largely male environments.

Our Dec 1st. meeting will be the last meeting of this semester but we are already planning the meetings in Spring.  The February meeting will be a panel discussion with women from a variety of male dominated industries discussing what it is like working in that kind of environment.  Then, in March, we will be sponsoring a Parent/Daughter Non-traditional Career Fair in the Cuyamaca Gymnasium for an evening.

The next club meeting is schedule for February.  A panel of women in non-traditional careers is planned for this event. More information will follow...
